The final trailer of Illumination and Universal’s The Super Mario Bros is out now. We got the first glimpse of the upcoming animated feature in October last year. So, if you are expecting something new, then let us tell you that the latest clip looks like a proper Super Mario video game, except for Chris Pratt’s voice work, which has not changed at all.
It seems like the makers have learned that leaning into the origins is not a horrible idea. The last time the Super Mario movie franchise maintained a safe distance from its source material was in 1993. Yup, we are talking about that notorious and ‘one hell of a joke’ live-action Super Mario flick, starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo.
We see Mario and the rest of the characters competing in a colourful and vibrant Mario Kart race during the final moments of the final trailer. A great idea for a new Mario Kart game?
The newest clip pretty much gives away the animated feature’s tone. The flick promises to deliver a heavy dosage of light-hearted entertainment and fun, with a little sprinkle of dark humour. We will see Mario trying to save his brother, Luigi, from the wrath of Bowser in the film. Of course, the protagonist will receive immense support from Princess Peach and other supporting characters.
The Super Mario Movie stars Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Kay, Seth Rogen, and many more. It will hit theatres worldwide on April 5. Stay tuned for more updates.
