The Right Cast
A film such as ‘Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham’ requires the right actors for the right roles. And the casting director has found the perfect actor for each role. The actors Jaffer Idukki and Grace Antony deserve special mentions for their brilliant acting as well.
A Decent Contemporary
The movie is primarily a contemporary feature that follows an estranged couple looking to rekindle the passion of their relationship – which is very relatable. We also get a look at various characters from different walks of life who are reacting to an incident that happened in the film.
Fourth Wall Breaks
One surprising thing about the film is its fourth-wall-breaking. While many will find it hard to find this fourth-wall-breaking from just watching from the movie alone, you should check out the teaser after the film ends. Check it out below:
3 Reasons Why You Should Not Watch The Film
Overall Story
While the film has some good acting and situational comedy, the overall story is quite ridiculous. No real character arcs, no real plot and in the end the characters get on with their lives. Boring.
Unexpected Preaching
There are a few unexpected preaching moments on screen. While there are smart ways to get people to empathize (finding menstrual pads in Shalini’s bag is a good example), the film talks about political unrest, religious discrimination and mansplaining in a contemporary situational comedy film – out of nowhere.
Length
The pacing and length of ‘Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham’ is a major drawback. The film seems to drag on and on and the addition of new characters (no matter how entertaining they are), just adds to the screentime length. The film could have easily reduced a half hour from the movie and we would likely have gotten a more interesting film out of it.
Final Verdict
We would recommend this movie for all situational comedy lovers. And for those who love good acting. If you skip, you are not missing much.
