Recently Netflix subscribers have noticed a trend where the streaming giant does little to promote any movies are series that is not its own original content. The biggest example of this was when Netflix dropped a big blockbuster on its site without any fanfare or promotions.
The blockbuster in question is China’s second highest grossing release “The Wandering Earth” which earned a staggering 700 million dollars.
The sci-fi film is adapted from Liu Cixin’s novella of the same name which deals with a near-future where sun starts to die out and all the governments unite to move the Earth into a new solar system to save it from extinction.
The movie was the biggest hit of China in 2019 and it was incredibly surprising that even Netflix Asia debuted an official trailer only on April 29, just a day before the movie was set to stream on Netflix.
As for the United States, Netflix never uploaded any trailer to its YouTube page nor was the movie ever mentioned on any of its official press releases.
