The Witcher Star Feels “Sorry” For Liam Hemsworth’s Casting Backlash

The Witcher star Freya Allan has expressed her opinions about the backlash faced by Liam Hemsworth upon getting selected as Henry Cavill’s replacement for Geralt for Season 4. The popular Netflix series takes inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series of the same name. It revolves around Geralt of Rivia, a magically enhanced monster hunter. He shares his destiny with Ciri (Allan), the girl with whom he is connected through ‘the Law of Surprise’.

A large part of The Witcher’s popularity resulted because of Henry Cavill’s global prominence. Before joining the Netflix series, the actor donned the red cape of Superman in Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017). Apart from these superhero flicks, Cavill worked on notable films like Immortals (2011), The Man from U.N.C.L.E (2015), and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) before 2019. Plus, he revealed he was a big fan of The Witcher novels before becoming a part of the show, making himself the perfect man to lead the show. Fans also felt confident with Cavill’s casting. However, we cannot say the same about Liam Hemsworth.

In a recent interview with Collider, Freya Allan discussed fans’ backlash over Hesmworth’s casting as Geralt for The Witcher Season 4. This is what she said:

“I don’t want to speak for him, but from what I’ve understood, I feel like he’s really wanting to try and bring the heart. He’s been training. I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role. But I’m really excited to see what he does. And he’s such a lovely guy. I just hope that people give him the time of day, you know?”

Remember how fans reacted to the news of Hemsworth replacing Cavill in The Witcher? The former’s casting as Geralt did not sit well with the majority of the show’s fanbase. Both the show’s producers and actors have made numerous attempts to justify Hemsworth’s addition. The producers tried to pacify the situation by disclosing that Hemsworth’s version of Geralt would be a rebooted version of Cavill’s take on the character. In addition, the show’s cast members, from Allan to Cavill himself, have supported Hemsworth’s addition.

We should not forget that it was Henry Cavill who left The Witcher, and Liam Hemsworth stepped in to save the show from cancellation. Thanks to Hemsworth, we are getting a fourth season. It all depends on how ‘The Hunger Games’ actor performs in Season 4 as Geralt. Stay tuned for more updates.
