The Witcher fame Anya Chalotra will voice the character of Circe in the forthcoming DCU animated series, Creature Commandos. James Gunn recently confirmed this news on Threads (Instagram) while replying to a fan.
User ‘dcugunn’ asked Gunn if Anya Chalotra was playing Circe in Creature Commandos. This is what the DC Studio co-head replied:
“Yes. And there are other cool characters in the show played by other cool actors. But all of the series regulars were announced.”
Circe is one of the most popular Wonder Woman villains in the comics. She is a centuries-old sorceress from the Greek mythology known to possess goddess-like abilities. Over the years, her appearance has changed in the comics: a blonde (Pre-Crisis), a brunette (Post-Crisis), and a redhead (Rebirth & New 52). However, most of her powers have remained the same since her comic book inception: immortality, powerful sorcery, and the ability to turn humans into animals. The character first appeared in 1949’s Wonder Woman comic book series (#37).
Apart from being one of the primary adversaries to Wonder Woman, Circe has also conflicted with other DC characters, such as Superman, Supergirl, Rip Hunter, and the Sea Devils. It will be interesting to see why a character like Circe has been added to the Creature Commandos series. It would not be surprising if she becomes the primary antagonist in the show. Her appearance could lay the foundation for Wonder Woman’s arrival in James Gunn’s DCU.
In addition, James Gunn has revealed that the same actors will play the same characters in animation, live-action, and video games. It means we could see Anya Chalotra portraying Circe in a live-action DCU project in the future.
