The WWE-Netflix Merger Fuels Up With Vince McMahon Documentary

WWE’s Former Chairman Vince McMahon has been in controversies throughout his professional life. WWE fans have always wanted to know the truth behind many of his scandals and Netflix might just do that with their newest miniseries on one of the professional wrestling’s most decisive minds.

A new documentary titled ‘Mr. McMahon’ is set to release on Netflix which showcases the dark and challenging behind-the-scenes incidents from the life of the former WWE Chairman.

The major controversies and charges involving Mr. McMahon are covered in the six-episode series, which will debut on the platform on September 25. It also recounts McMahon’s rise and fall as the head of WWE.

After a former employee, Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against him for alleged crimes of sexual assault and human trafficking—claims he has vehemently denied—McMahon resigned from the corporation he had headed since 1982.

The trailer mentions the claims, but not before providing a brief history of McMahon’s ascent to fame on television and the previous scandals, including the Chris Benoit death and the steroid abuse case. Fans are thrilled and excited to see such mentions and are looking forward to watching the documentary.

Other well-known figures from the world of professional wrestling that appear in the teaser include Bret Hart, “The Hitman,” Paul “Triple H” Levesque, John Cena, Dwayne Johnson, and Hulk Hogan. WWE announced the series in 2020, before the lawsuit against McMahon was filed.

Chris Smith, the director of Tiger King, and Bill Simmons, the producer of 30 for 30, are the minds behind it. More than 200 hours of interviews with McMahon (before his resignation), his family, business partners, some of the most well-known figures in wrestling history, and the journalists who dug up McMahon’s claims were used to create the series.

This also comes ahead of the official merger between WWE and Netflix which starts in 2025. The rights to stream WWE RAW live exclusively starting in January 2025 have been purchased by Netflix at the beginning of this year. Over ten years, the rights deal—which cost more than $5 billion—will place Raw on streaming services in the US, Canada, the UK, and Latin America.
