Netflix has unveiled its calendar for the first half of August and there’s already three Indian films heading to the global streaming giant post their theatrical run.
The first is macho star Gopichand and Raashii Khanna starrer Telugu language court room action comedy drama ‘Pakka Commercial’. Helmed by Maruthi, the film failed to impress the audience at the box office mainly because of its storyline, routine screenplay and run time. But it was the performance of ‘Pakka Commercial’ cast that made the movie watchable.
Next up is Ritesh Rana’s ‘Happy Birthday’, another Telugu language surreal crime comedy film starring Lavanya Tripathi, Naresh Agastya, Satya and Vennela Kishore. Jointly produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Clap Entertainment, ‘Happy Birthdaym received mixed response from both critics and audience upon its theatrical release.
The third is Shilpa Shetty, Abhimanyu Dassani and Shirley Setia starrer Hindi action comedy film ‘Nikamma’ which also did not create much waves at the box office. Helmed by Sabbir Khan, the film is the Hindi remake of Telugu film ‘Middle Class Abbayi’.
Coming to the release dates of the above films, ‘Pakka Commercial’ premieres on 5th August, the same day it is releasing on Telugu only streaming platform Aha Video. ‘Happy Birthday’ starts streaming on Netflix from 8th August while ‘Nikamma’ makes its digital debut on 14th August.
It will be interesting to see if these above comedy dramas can convince the OTT audience or will go unnoticed in the deep sea of digital contents.
