It’s the weekend and we’re back again with another fantastic selection of films to binge-watch on Indian OTT platforms. This time, we give you a list of four found footage horror movies. Found footage is a filmmaking technique where the film’s narrative is presented in the form of raw footage usually filmed by one of the characters. ‘Cannibal Holocaust’ (1980) is one of the first films which used this narrative style.

The Last Exorcism, 2010 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
A troubled cleric named Marcus decides to expose his own fraud by allowing his last exorcism to be recorded by a documentary crew. However, bellying his expectations and past experience, his last exorcism turns out to be the one where he must face real evil for the first time while trying to exorcise a farmer’s daughter from a demonic entity.
The Blair Witch Project, 1999 (Streaming on Lionsgate Play)
Shot using a found-footage filmmaking technique, the film follows three students who venture into a forest to make a documentary on the Blair Witch legend, but never come back. A year later, their spine-chilling camera footage is found, showing the viewers about their mysterious disappearance. The film, although well-executed, was slightly ahead of its time and later achieved a cult status.
Incantation, 2022 (Streaming on Netflix)
Arguably the most horrifying Taiwanese horror movie and directed by Kevin Ko, the critically acclaimed film has been narrated through hand-held technique. The film’s plot revolves around a mother who is desperately trying to save her daughter from an evil curse which was started by her.
Cloverfield, 2008 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Apple iTunes – Rent)
Directed by Matt Reeves (Director – The Batman) and narrated in a found-footage format, the sci-fi horror film follows a group of friends who are partying in New York. Their get-together is interrupted after the arrival of a massive monster who wreaks havoc on the whole city, and everyone is forced to run for their lives in the chaotic city.
