The fourth instalment of the action packed ‘John Wick’ film series titled ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ is finally out in theatres and the movie has got a big thumbs-up from audience and critics alike. In case you’re a fan of high-octane action movies like the John Wick film series, then we have not one but two superb recommendations for you.
We suggest you watch the deftly executed 2011 Indonesian action thriller flick ‘The Raid’ aka ‘The Raid: Redemption’ and its equally explosive action-packed sequel ‘The Raid 2’ (2014) in case you still haven’t. Both these films are streaming in India on the MX Player and the Lionsgate Play OTT platforms.
Directed by Gareth Evans, ‘The Raid’ features Indonesian actor Iko Uwais as a newly recruited member named Rama of an elite SWAT team in the Indonesian capital Jakarta. The 20-man squad is assigned the arduous task to infiltrate a high-rise safe house controlled by a merciless crime lord called Tama. But soon Rama and his team find themselves outnumbered and trapped and must fight the building’s ruthless resident criminals to complete the mission and, more importantly, to save their lives.
The success of the parent film led to its sequel’s release titled ‘The Raid 2’, which was also helmed by Gareth Evans. The sequel’s story revolves around how fearless cop Rama goes undercover in a prison with the mission to eliminate Jakarta’s ruthless criminal underworld and to expose the corrupt cops.
Both ‘The Raid’ and ‘The Raid 2’ had received positive feedback from the audiences and critics. The first film has got a critics score of 87% on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes and the sequel holds a slightly lower but still impressive critics score of 82% on the same website.
