This Australian Crime Thriller on Netflix India Will Wow You!

Indians love true crime based crime thrillers. There is a separate fanbase for films like Zodiac and Memories of Murder here. There’s one such interesting title now available on streaming. It’s none other than the 2022 Australian psychological crime thriller film ‘The Stranger’. The film has been flooring critics and audience alike since its Cannes premiere on 18th May. After a limited theatrical release in Australia on 6th October, The Stranger started streaming on Netflix from 19th October.

The Stranger is based on the non-fiction book ‘The Sting: The Undercover Operation That Caught Daniel Morcombe’s Killer’ by Kate Kyriacou, and also inspired by the murder investigation of Daniel Maorcombe. The film follows an investigation of a child abduction case, with an undercover police officer in a sting operation who is tasked with getting close to and forming a friendship with the prime suspect Harris. What follows is how the sting operation catches hold of the suspect in the child abduction case.

The Stranger is at a striking 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 3.5/5 on Letterboxd. This is a proof of the fact that the film has struck the right chord with its target audience and all the hype around it is sound and valid. The crime thriller is written and directed by Thomas M Wright and stars Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris in lead roles.
