The Indian biographical action drama film ‘Major‘ following the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, an army officer who was killed in the 2002 Mumbai terror attacks theatrically released worldwide on 3rd June, 2022. Despite clashing directly with Mammoth Vikram and Samrat Prithviraj, Major did exceptionally well at the box-office. Major grossed around 60+ crores worldwide and it’s Hindi version collected over 15 crores. The film was also critically appreciated for a more personal and less jingoistic tone in the treatment of its subject matter. Major was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi. The film dropped on Netflix India on July 3rd, both in Hindi and Telugu.
Major struck Netflix India’s Top 10 list like an unprecedented wave. The film is not just trending in one language, but in both the languages it has been shot. Major Hindi version is now trending at #2 and the Telugu version is trending at #3 respectively. In all probabilities, if Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 had’nt dropped last friday, Major would have sealed #1 and #2 with ease. The last time this happened with Jana Gana Mana, when both Malayalam and Hindi versions were trending on top. However, Jana Gana Mana was not a bilingual film unlike Major. This is no small feat for the film as it seems to have won hearts of both Telugu and hindi audience, both at the movies and the streaming audience. This way Major has made a smashing entry into the Netflix Trends list as a true-blue bilingual film.
Adivi Sesh plays the titular role of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan in Major that follows ‘The 2008 Mumbai attacks’ (also referred to as 26/11, where a series of terrorist attacks took place in November 2008, when 10 members of L-e-T, an Islamist terrorist organisation that carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai.
