There are certain films that go mostly unnoticed but are so good that you just wish more people watched them. Today’s recommendation is one such film that came out last year and despite a good box office run in the US, not many noticed it in India.
We are talking about ‘The Iron Claw’ by Sean Durkin starring Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, Maura Tierney, Stanley Simons, Holt McCallany and Lily James.
‘The Iron Claw’ is the true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Touted to be “cursed” by tragedy, the film depicts the struggles of the wrestling company owner Fritz Von Erick’s sons to achieve the success their father groomed them for.
The film had an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the website consensus reads, “Powerfully acted and profoundly sad, ‘The Iron Claw’ honors its fact-based story with a dramatization whose compassionate exploration of family ties is just as hard-hitting as its action in the wrestling ring.”
Not only was ‘The Iron Claw’ successful commercially it also received positive reviews from critics with praises for Efron’s performance, with some even calling it his career best.
So if you are looking for inspiration, a biographical sports drama always does the job and hence ‘The Iron Claw’ should be on your watchlist.
