We all know Greta Gerwig is an absolutely incredible filmmaker who has got back to back Oscar nominations and she had proved it in her solo directorial debut ‘Lady Bird’ (2017) itself. And if that isn’t a good enough reason for you to catch ‘Lady Bird’ up on Jio Hotstar, hopefully you will be convinced by the end of this article.
‘Lady Bird’ is a coming of age drama that follows a young 17-year old girl who goes by the name Lady Bird (Saoirse Ronan). As senior year comes to an end, she must try to navigate through the ups and downs in her relationships while trying to get into a prestigious college and become popular.
Lady Bird is a fierce independent teenager but her relationship with her mother is not the best and honestly that feels painfully real and relatable. Moreover, despite handling the coming-if-age theme, the film does not feel cliched at any point and instead gives very fresh insights on the turmoils of adolescence.
‘Lady Bird’ is an exceptional film that’s very well written, acted, directed and put on screen. The style, sensibility and spirits of the film is simply beautiful making it uniquely original and wonderful.
