“The Little Mermaid” has emerged as a big success for Disney in 2023 on both streaming and theatrical platforms. Directed by Rob Marshall and headlined by Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, this live-action adaptation of the beloved 1989 animated classic has shattered records and garnered widespread acclaim.
On Disney+, “The Little Mermaid” made history by becoming the most-watched Disney movie premiere since “Hocus Pocus 2,” amassing a huge 16 million views in its first five days. But if you see, Disney+ keeps only Disney kind of films on their platform, so the competition is already very, very low there.
In theaters, the film had a great run, opening with a remarkable $118.6 million in North America alone, with nearly $300 million in total earnings. Globally, it joined the top ten highest-grossing films of 2023, with $570 million in total.
Additionally, the live-action adaptation reignited interest in the animated “The Little Mermaid” films on Disney+.
Disney has suffered a lot through its evil practices in the last few months. Its sinister policies came out in public, and the brand image was severely damaged. Good for them, people are still interested in the kind of stories they want to tell.
