Alright, here we go again! To no one’s surprise, Disney’s latest trailer for its upcoming live-action Snow White remake has received over one million dislikes on YouTube. It was certainly coming for the Rachel Zegler starrer, given the amount of controversy the movie has endured since its early days of filming.
Disney unveiled Snow White’s first teaser trailer in early August this year, which shows Zegler’s titular character, Andrew Burnap’s Jonathan, and Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen. The clip also gives a brief glimpse of the seven dwarfs.
So, what’s causing all the negative buzz about the trailer? Well, we have plenty of reasons for this scenario.
Many controversies have plagued Disney’s forthcoming live-action take on Snow White. For instance, its leading lady, Rachel Zegler, told Variety that her Snow White remake would be substantially different from the original 1937 storyline because the story looked too old to her and the world has progressed since then. Even her casting in the remake sparked racist backlash due to her Latina heritage, as the original character was depicted as white.
During the SAG-AFTRA strike, Zegler commented that she deserved to be paid when viewers streamed her projects on OTT platforms. Many believe that Disney’s decision to push back the film’s theatrical release to 2025 resulted because of the actress, as the studio feared her controversial comments would adversely impact the press tour. Moreover, many viewers have objected to the casting of actors who have played the seven dwarfs in the remake, as they are actors without dwarfism.
At present, the teaser trailer of Disney’s live-action Snow White stands with over 81K likes and one million dislikes. Whoa! This could significantly impact the film’s financial success, considering its huge production budget of $209 million. The marketing and promotion costs are likely to be substantial as well. With such a negative reception, the live-action remake might struggle to perform well at the box office when it releases in March 2025. Stay tuned for more updates. Here’s the teaser trailer!
