Most of us binge-watchers must already be aware that the highly popular Tom Cruise starrer aerial action-adventure film ‘Top Gun’ (1986) was directed by late Tony Scott – brother of veteran filmmaker Ridley Scott. But one criminally underrated and sadly forgotten movie directed by Tony Scott has escaped the attention of even diehard movie buffs.
We are talking about the 2006 science fiction mystery thriller film ‘Déjà Vu’ starring the ever-dependable Denzel Washington in the lead role. But the only catch is that currently, ‘Déjà Vu’ is streaming in India on a rental / pay-per-view basis on Google Play, Apple TV, and YouTube platforms. But trust us guys, the movie is bang for the buck.
Directed by Late Tony Scott (the man behind ‘Man on Fire’ and ‘Enemy of the State’), ‘Déjà Vu’ is an investigative murder-mystery which beautifully incorporates the concept of time-travel or time-loop in a never-seen-before way. The film follows an ATF special agent’s (Denzel Washington in supreme form) pursuit to find the man responsible for a lethal ferry explosion. But to catch the criminal and prevent the crime, he must use a top-secret, time-shifting surveillance device. The movie also features Jim Caviezel (lead actor – Person of Interest), Val Kilmer, and Paula Patton in pivotal roles.
Although Tony Scott’s ‘Déjà Vu’ received somewhat mixed feedback from critics, please don’t get dissuaded by them as the movie is quite gripping and highly entertaining, especially for sci-fi / thriller movie buffs and diehard fans of Denzel Washington and Tony Scott.
