Hollywood screenwriter Matt Naylor’s Korean adaptation for his script ‘#Alone’ had come out on South Korean theaters in June 24th, and it became an instant runaway hit. Titled #Alive, the Korean review aggregator Naver Movie Database, gave the film an approval rating of 7.09 from critic reviews. And now the movie is coming to our screens world-wide through Netflix.
#Alive is primarily shown from the perspective of a slacking gamer Oh Joon-woo (portrayed by Yoo Ah-in). He live streams himself playing video games for an online audience most of the time, leaving his apartment to only get important essentials and supplies. One day while live streaming, a few of his fellow online gamer friends asks him to stop the game. Some ask for his help while others urge him to switch on the television. Bemused, he pauses his game and switches to his television. He is floored by the live broadcast shown on the television, which showed that Korea was being infected by a mysterious pathogen.
He quickly moved over to his window to see what was happening inside his apartment complex and watches in terror as people get bit and eaten by the infected. Terrified, he quickly locks up his apartment and barricades himself from the outside world. After a few days pass, this food-deprived young man finds another survivor Kim Yoo-bin (portrayed by Park Shin-hye), a young woman who lives at the opposite end of their apartment complex. The movie follows them, as they help each other survive and fight through depression and un-waveringly hopeless odds.
The movie also stars Lee Hyun-wook, Oh Hye-won, Jeon Bae-soo and Lee Chae-kyung in prominent roles. The screenplay was adapted for the Korean language by Cho Il-hyung who also directs the movie.
#Alive will be available for viewing on Netflix on 8th September 2020.
