Trick or treat; this famous Halloween ritual has been a kid’s favorite for ages. But when it comes to elders then they usually preferred watching horror movies. Spooky films such as The Exorcist, Cry Wolf, and Saw were all released during this festival and they got a warm response from the audience, even though the films were chilling.
But, if we see the OTT trends on Halloween then they are not very promising. Even on such an occasion, people preferred watching other genres instead of horror. Mind you that we are not only talking about the Indian territory. We realize that Halloween is not that much popular in India and there doesn’t seem to be any particular occasion of horror in India.
But it is a worldwide trend and even in the USA and Europe where Halloween is a major festival, horror remained secondary, tertiary, or no choice at all for the masses.
We have two big titles to support this claim. Netflix’s ‘Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities’ and Barbarian streaming on DisneyPlus. One series and the other film got rave reviews from the audience and critics alike. They definitely deserved to be listed as one of the best horror titles ever, let alone this year.
But have a look at the views.
Barbarian remained at the 8th position last week on Disney+ while Hocus Pocus 2 topped the chart. Mind you that Hocus Pocus 2 is one month old and is more of a comedy than horror.
Talking about Cabinet Of Curiosities, it failed to garner decent watch hours, if we consider the buzz, even after no competition last week. Series even 2-3 weeks old won against it.
Thus, this must be recorded by the streamers as to why people would ignore horror even on an occasion as spooky as Halloween.
