It’s the weekend and we are back with another fantastic binge-watch recommendation for our readers. This time, it is the epic anti-war movie which has started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform from today itself. We are talking about the German flick ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ directed by Grimme Award winner Edward Berger.
Based on German novelist Erich Maria Remarque’s 1929 book of the same name and set during the final years of the World War-I period, the anti-war movie follows the story of a young German soldier Paul Bäumer (played by Felix Kammerer), who enrols himself in the German army along with his friends. But his initial enthusiasm eventually declines after the 17-year-old soldier begins to understand the brutal life in the trenches and that too with barely any equipment support and good training. The film also features renowned actor Daniel Bruhl (Inglorious Bastards, Rush) in a pivotal role.
Before dropping on Netflix, ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ had made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year in September. The movie has now become Germany’s official entry for Oscars 2023 in the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category.
‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ currently holds a highly impressive critics score of 94% and is ‘Certified Fresh’ on popular reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes based on 56 reviews. Moreover, the film has also secured a user rating of 8.1/10 on the entertainment portal IMDb until now. We hope you like the film.
