This Hindi film silently sneaked into Netflix India Trends and how. We are talking about Sunny Kaushal and Nushrratt Bharuccha starrer ‘Hurdang’. The film had a theatrical release on 8th April, 2022. However, to the dismay of makers the film clashed with mammoths KGF and even RRR (indirectly) and tanked badly at the box-office. Hurdang released on Netflix India on July 10th.
For a film that went un-noticed at the theatres, Netflix has rightfully given an audience thereby even taking the film to Netflix India’s trending charts. The film trends at #5 in the Overall Netflix India Top 10 and is at #3 in Top 10 Movies, slightly below Ante Sundaraniki. The achievement is quite a feat because unlike Ante Sundaraniki, Hurdang is a social romantic drama. However, the film neither is critically appreciated nor is appreciated largely by general audience post its Netflix release. So it is yet to be seen if the film manages to sustain in the trends list for more than a week.
Hurdang follows Daddu Thakur, a high-caste aspiring IAS officer. When the country is caught in the Mandal Commission reservations storm, fearing that his IAS aspirations will go for a toss Daddu Thakur embarks on an agitation against the reservations.
Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat and produced by T Series and Shailesh R Singh under Karma Media and Entertainment. Hurdang stars Sunny Kaushal, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Vijay Varma in lead roles. Nikhil Bhat’s previous directorials include Shoonya, Brij Mohan Amar Rahe!, and Voot Select web series, ‘The Gone Game’. Hurdang is now streaming on Netflix India.
