American Media Company AMC Networks launched Shudder on Monday in Australia and New Zealand with content like breakout hits “Creepshow” and “Cursed Films”. Shudder used to be only available in the US, but has expanded to Canada, the UK and Germany over the years along with the above mentioned countries as well.
Shudder, which is aptly named for it’s exclusive horror thriller content, is a subscription video on demand service which had caught a lot of people by storm. The niche SVOD has been connecting with fans through scares and have managed to hold their own against OTT giants like Netflix and Amazon.
Shudder has been filling their library with their recently released originals including the shot-in-lockdown thriller “Host”, environment horror “The Beach House”, “Blood Quantum”, “The Room”, “Z” and many more. They have also included Asian made projects like the 2018 Japanese hit “One Cut of the Dead”.
Shudder will be available in Australia and New Zealand on the web, iOS, Apple TV, Android and Android TV. It is also available on FireTV in Australia. Shudder’s GEneral Manager, Craig Engler is very pleased with this expansion and is hoping to continue their expand their brand internationally and provide premium genre entertainment around the globe.
There hasn’t been any recent plans for them to capitalize on the Indian market which is rich with a wide range of horror fans in the country. It will be difficult to compete with established streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+Hotstar. But Shudder has teamed up with Amazon Prime Video in the US and they can try the same strategy here to break into the Indian market.
