This is How Jensen Ackles Was Cast as Soldier Boy in ‘The Boys S3’

Fans are waiting with bated breath for the third season of Amazon Prime Video’s immensely popular, Primetime Emmy nominated superhero show ‘The Boys’ ever since it began filming in early 2021. Since then, it was reported that ‘Supernatural’ lead actor Jensen Ackles was roped in to play an interesting and important character namely Soldier Boy.

Showrunner Eric Kripke had previously described Soldier Boy’s character as the ‘Homelander before Homelander’ who is a World War-II hero and is brought out of retirement. It was also revealed that, unlike the comics, Soldier Boy’s character would be even worse than what Homelander has been portrayed in the first two seasons. Erik Kripke and Jensen Ackles had previously collaborated for another hit show ‘Supernatural’.

In a recent interview (via Vanity Fair), Erik Kripke had spilled the beans about Jensen Ackles’ casting as Soldier Boy. Kripke revealed that Soldier Boy was written much before Jensen Ackles was cast for the role. And considering the character’s World War II history, initially, the makers were searching for an older actor to essay the part.

However, by a chance occurrence, one day Kripke got a casual call from Ackles and that’s when the showrunner shared his predicament about Soldier Boy’s casting. This character instantly got Jensen Ackles’ attention, and he expressed his keen interest in doing the role. And the rest is history. This is how Jensen Ackles was cast as Soldier Boy for ‘The Boys’ third season.

Regarding Soldier Boy’s character, Kripke also revealed that the third season of ‘The Boys’ will focus on the history of the ‘supes’ story and how Soldier Boy’s character played an important role and how they got here.

While ‘The Boys’ Season 3 is already in the making, the show’s release date is yet to be confirmed by the makers. The first two seasons of the show are streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform in India. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on ‘The Boys S3’.
