After Netflix, Disney+ has been spreading its wings towards South Korean dramas and movies. Snowdrop, Rookie Cops, Soundtrack, When the Weather is Nice etc are some of their important korean originals. So many things have been said about how good are South Koreans when it comes to writing thrillers. We are here to recommend one such interesting detective crime thriller today. The title is also the latest addition to Disney+ list of South Korean shows : ‘Shadow Detective’.
Shadow Detective follows veteran detective Kim Taek-rok’s life. He is one of the oldest experts in the field and can now look back on a fulfilling career in the police force as he nears retirement. However, his life takes an unexpected turn as he tries to rush to his partner’s aid. He is ambushed and escapes. He gets charged for a murder he never committed at the first place. He gets framed in a conspiracy whose initiator gets in touch with Taek-rok shortly afterwards. This urges Taek-rok, who is on the run, to reopen his old cases in order to be find the root cause of all these happenings. Will Taek-rok solve his final case before he runs out of time?
An edge of the seat thriller, Shadow Detective is a show with a crisp run-time of 8 episodes only. It is produced by Studio Dragon, Slingshot Studio and Jumbo Film for The Walt Disney Company. The series ran from October 26th to November 9th. Written by Im Chang-se, Shadow Detective is directed by Han Dong-hwa.
