The caption ‘from the director of the Malayalam Drishyam movies’ should be reason enough for a thriller genre fan to watch the film a go. The OG man himself from whom all this nationwide craze for the Drishyam movies began- Jeethu Joseph is the man behind the film which takes place in a remote village on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. The star filmmaker’s latest Malayalam thriller has just started streaming on Prime Video and let us tell you firsthand, you’d regret not watching this movie earlier. We are talking about the crime drama ‘Kooman’.
Finally streaming on OTT after its successful theatrical run, ‘Kooman’ stars Asif Ali( Uyare, Rorschach) as the protagonist who is playing the role of a police officer. A short-tempered man who finds himself making situations worse, the star has played the role flawlessly. The subtlety with which he gives an anchored performance is one of the highlights of the film.
The synopsis of the story is: “The story takes place in a hilly village on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. The village has people of different cultures from both states. The story is about a strict police officer who relocates there and the subsequent events that turn his and many others’ lives upside down associated with that police station. Few normal incidents happen in the village, and some from the past suddenly appear to be abnormal. The film gears up to a gripping thriller as the secrets slowly start unfolding.”
The movie also stars Renji Panicker, Jaffar Idukki, Baiju, Baburaj, Riyas Narmakala, Hannah Reji Koshy, Jayan Cherthala, and Pauly Valsan, amongst others. We do not want to reveal anything more about the film but would tell you that there are very few well-made thrillers and ‘Kooman’ is certainly one among the lot. Don’t think too much about it, just stream the film on Prime Video and then thank us later. Go into the film without any concrete ideas and you are in for a treat!
