Just at the time when one felt that quality regional content was imminent for the longevity of the digital medium, this Malayalam web series titled Meenaviyal seems to be hitting all the right notes. Probably the first major success for Malayalam in the streaming space, the series, written by Archana Kavi and directed by Abhishek Nair, is a situational comedy between two siblings.
Telugu and Tamil have been the only regional languages in the South to have been reasonably active in the streaming space but Meenaviyal is setting the record straight. With over 6 episodes ranging between 6 and 10 minutes each, the viewer count over a 10-day span has been steadily increasing. Each episode on an average has at least above 6 lakh views that’s quite impressive for a language that hasn’t caught up with the streaming space as much as others.
“My brother in real life is as aggressive as the sister in the series. However, we’re more responsible in real life than what we’ve shown here. My intention is to provide a slice of life treatment to what I write or enact,” the writer Archana Kavi had said in a chat with a news portal recently. More power to regional content indeed!
