Amazon Prime Video has quietly started showing ads in India, and naturally, people aren’t happy.
It’s not just about the ads, but yes, those are annoying. The bigger frustration is that Prime Video is bundled with Amazon’s shopping benefits, and users are starting to question why.
Some people only care about watching movies and shows. They don’t need same-day delivery or lightning deals. Others shop on Amazon all the time but barely open Prime Video. So why force both groups into the same expensive subscription?
Now that ads are part of the package, the deal feels even worse. You’re paying for Prime, and still getting interrupted mid-scene. It doesn’t sit right.
For the benefit of its customers, Amazon should separate the two. One plan for video. One for shopping. Pretty easy.
It would let people pay for what they actually use. It would make Prime Video cleaner, maybe even ad-free again. And most of all, it would feel fair.
Right now, the bundle feels like a buffet where you’re charged for dessert even if you just came for rice.
People aren’t saying they’ll cancel just yet. But they’re definitely thinking about it.
Amazon’s biggest strength is convenience. Maybe it’s time they brought that same thinking to how they price their services.
