This Offbeat, Underrated Horror Film Is Streaming Now on Netflix

It’s the weekend and we’re back again with another handpicked binge-watch recommendation you can watch on OTT. Since you might have already seen most of the popular titles on OTT, so this time, we have shortlisted an underrated, offbeat horror movie which has recently started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform in India. We’re talking about a 90-minute natural horror flick called ‘The Ruins’.

‘The Ruins’ follows the story of two American couples Amy, Stacy, Jeff, and Eric who travel to Mexico for a fun-filled vacation. But, after reaching there, they visit a far-off archaeological dig inside a jungle in search of the missing brother of a German tourist. But their perfect holiday soon turns into their worst nightmare after they encounter a form of evil lurking in the ruins.

Directed by Carter Smith, ‘The Ruins’ movie is based on the 2006 horror novel bearing the same name. The critically acclaimed novel and its film adaptation was written by Scott Smith, whose crime thriller debut novel ‘A Simple Plan’ was also adapted into a film by ‘Spider-Man’ director Sam Raimi. Interestingly, Scott Smith was also the showrunner of Amazon Prime Video’s sci-fi series ‘The Peripheral’.

‘The Ruins’ film adaptation is an acquired taste which did not receive very good reviews from the critics. However, the underrated film should be enjoyed by diehard fans of the horror and survival thriller films genre. It’s not for the weak hearted though, so viewers discretion is advised.
