Aishwarya Lekshmi‘s much awaited horror outing ‘Kumari’ finally hit the theatres today on 28th October. Marked as Malayalam Cinema’s horror original in years, Kumari had built up extensive hype on it after its posters, teaser and trailer release. The streaming rights of the film is bagged by Netflix India.
Based on a traditional patriarchal family background in rural Kerala and some of the customs and beliefs surrounding, Kumari acts a welcome change from the urban and semi-urban simple stories we have seen recently in malayalam cinema.
The premise of Kumari reads:” The world of Kumari, who is married off far away to Kanhirangat, a cursed land beyond Illymala, in the west. A naive Kumari arrives in the cursed land, where people are ready to sacrifice their lives to preserve tradition and power.”
Besides Aishwarya, the movie also stars Rahul Madhav, Shine Tom Chacko, Swasika, and National Award winner Surabhi Lakshmi in major roles. Aishwarya was last seen in ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1’ and Prime Video original Telugu film ‘Ammu’. The star is all set to end this month with a bang with Kumari being her third release this month. Kumari is directed by Nirmal Sahadev of ‘Ranam’ fame and produced by Prithviraj Productions.
