Shiva Baby’ on prime Video is a film that doesn’t move long distances geographically but in terms of emotions it is nothing less than a bomb waiting to explode.
Written and directed by Emma Seligman in her feature directorial debut, ‘Shiva Baby’ follows a directionless bisexual college student Danielle who is faced with a series of awkward encounters at a day-long shiva, a Jewish gathering during a time of mourning. Amongst overbearing relatives, she is rattled by the appearance of an ex-girlfriend and of her secret sugar daddy, who unexpectedly arrives with her wife and baby.
Everything is happening inside one house in ‘Shiva Baby’ where a tangled mess of relationships overwhelm Danielle who cannot escape it even if she tries to. The anxiety and tension grapple you more and more as the film proceeds and at a point you might feel as suffocated as the main character itself who is burdened with all the expectations, secrets and awkwardness.
