Tragicomedy is a rare genre as it’s one of the most complicated amalgamation of two quite opposing genres- tragedy and comedy. Our today’s recommendation though offers a perfect balance of the two and will have you in splits in one moment and tearing up in another.
We are talking about ‘One Mississippi’ on Amazon Prime Video, a dark comedy inspired by events in comic Tig Notaro’s life. Starring as Tig , an LA based radio host, she returns to her hometown in Mississippi after her after receiving news that her mother, Caroline, will be taken off life support following an unexpected fall.
While still dealing with her serious health issues, including recovering from a double mastectomy, she is forced on a painful (and at times, hilarious) journey that unearths uncomfortable truths about herself and her family. In order to heal, both physically and emotionally, Tig must reconnect with her roots before moving forward.
‘One Mississippi’ has a storyline that is empowering and emotional at the same time. It’s also brilliant in the sense that it’s not just a basic story rather takes the viewers on this incredible emotional journey.
