The super-hit ‘90s sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ is making a comeback in bold and dark reboot.
‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ ran for six season from 1990-96 following Will Smith’s character from his rough Philadelphia neighbourhood to living in a wealthy mansion in Bel-Air with his uncle. It made Smith an overnight sensation and established the show as a cult classic for its original premise and ridiculous comedy.
As per reports, the dramatic re-telling, ‘Bel-Air’ of the beloved characters won’t be a comedy but a hard-hitting drama that has been based on a fan-made trailer posted on YouTube. The video garnered over 7.5 million views and caught the lead actor, Will Smith’s attention who is now making the reboot with the creator of the video, Morgan Cooper.
The reboot will be a dramatized version of the original where themes of class, race and the internal conflicts and struggles of prejudice will be highlighted while also paying tribute to the nostalgic comedy and style of the original.
The series is being written by Cooper along with Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy, The Wire) who is the show-runner as well. It is being produced by Will Smith and original creators Andy and Susan Borowitz.
The producers are looking for the right platform to release the gritty reboot on currently and with a humongous fan following of such a popular show, it’s needless to say that a bidding war has ensued among competitors to acquire the rights of the series.
Regardless of who gets the streaming rights to the show, this reboot is one that both old and young fans will highly look forward to when it releases!
