This Tamil Film To Release On OTT After Collecting Dust For Six Years

Balaji Tharaneetharan directed film Oru Pakka Kathai started its film shoot way back in 2014 December. The film is now set to release digitally this year on Zee5. This Tamil romance drama was supposed to be the debut film for both Kalidas Jayaram (son of Indian actor Jayaram) and Megha Akash.

The K. S. Sreenivasan produced film was set to release in late 2015 but faced set-backs in the script and the project was put on ice for a year. The film restarted shooting in April 2017, with the launch date set for 1st September 2017. Kamal Hassan showed up during a closed viewing at Prasad Lab in Vadapalani and introduced Kalidas to the audience.

But the film was again put on hold, this time by the Indian Censor Board because they didn’t approve of the word ‘intercourse’; and didn’t think it should be allowed for public viewing. The movie was granted a U/A certificate but since the film makers believed this was a U-certificate-worthy film, they submitted the film to the revising committee.

Balaji was adamant to show the film without censoring the one word. This film is a drama regarding a middle class family. The film doesn’t have smoking, drinking or double-innuendo dialogues, so the fact that a single word caused this much problem for its showing irked Balaji. So he waited until he got the U certification to showcase the film, which he got eventually.

Oru Pakka Kathai is set to release on September 25th on Zee5. The story revolves around a young couple and around the medical complications the young woman faces when she becomes pregnant.
