Last week was marked with the arrival of some exciting Indian OTT titles including several films and web series such as ‘Beast’, ‘The Kashmir Files’, ‘Modern Love Mumbai’, and ‘Puzhu’, to name a few.
Likewise, the current week too has some eagerly anticipated OTT films and web series coming up. For this article, we have compiled a list of the top Indian titles streaming on OTT platforms this week.
12th Man (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 20th May)
Helmed by ‘Drishyam’ director Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal, the mystery thriller revolves around twelve unrelated strangers from different spheres of life who get an invitation to a remote mansion by a mysterious host. The events of the film will purportedly take place over a period of 24 hours.
Panchayat Season-2 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 20th May)
The web series follows an engineering graduate Abhishek Tripathi (played by IIT Kharagpur alumni turned actor Jitendra Kumar), who reluctantly accepts the post of Secretary of a panchayat office in a remote village of Uttar Pradesh. Each episode of the show is a slice-of-life comedy-drama that gives you the feel of a typical easy-going village-day. It also features veteran actors Raghuveer Yadav (in the role of Pradhan-Pati) and Neena Gupta (in the role of an inactive village Pradhan), and Chandan Roy as the good-hearted assistant, amongst others.
RRR (Streaming on Zee5, BookMyShow, Netflix (TBA) from 20th May)
Helmed by S.S Rajamouli, the blockbuster period action movie ‘RRR’ features Ram Charan and Jr.NTR in the lead roles and Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. The film is a fictional tale set in the 1920s that revolves around two legendary Indian revolutionaries namely Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr. NTR).
Acharya (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 20th May)
Set in a fictional temple town called Dharmasthala, the film’s plot follows the titular protagonist Acharya (played by Chiranjeevi), who makes it his mission to protect the residents from the clutches of Basava (Sonu Sood). How his mission is related to a man named Siddha (Ram Charan) and how he saves the people from Basava’s atrocities forms the film’s underlying premise.
Bhala Thandanana (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 20th May)
The movie follows a journalist named Sashi Rekha (Catherine Tresa), who is investigating a series of violent murders. While Chandu, an apparently innocent accountant working at an orphanage is in love with Sashi. Sashi learns that the cold-blooded killings are related to a man called Anand Bali (Garuda Ram). Later, she also discovers a shocking fact about Chandu and his real motive.
Zombivli (Streaming on Zee5 from 20th May)
Set amidst the backdrop of the Dombivili suburb of Mumbai, the horror comedy film features a group of people including a middle-class, newly married couple Sudhir and Seema and a slum leader Vishwas. They desperately try to survive a zombie outbreak and prevent themselves from getting bitten by the virus affected people.
Escaype Live (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 20th May)
The sci-fi thriller web series will showcase the journey of six different people vying for a whopping prize money of Rs.3 crores by participating in a contest through a social media app called Escaype Live. How far can the contestants go to win the game? The show features Siddharth, Jaaved Jaaferi and Shweta Tripathi Sharma, amongst others.
Honeymoon (Streaming on Voot from 20th May)
The romantic comedy series revolves around the relationship between a simple and shy boy-next-door Praveen (Nagabhushan) and an extrovert and vivacious woman named Tejaswini (Sanjana Anand). As a newly married couple, they go on an unexpected honeymoon to Kerala. During the adventurous vacation with several twists and turns, how they get along (or not) with each other, drives the show’s story forward.
