This Week’s Top Indian OTT Releases: Good Luck Jerry, Rocketry Etc

Last week was marked with the arrival of some exciting Indian OTT titles including several films and web series such ‘Indian Predator’, ‘Parampara S2’, ‘Dr. Arora’, ‘F3’, ‘Ghar Waapsi’, ‘Meme Boys’, and ‘Pathaaam Valavu’, to name a few.

Likewise, the current week too has some eagerly anticipated OTT films and web series coming up. For this article, we have compiled a list of the top Indian titles streaming on OTT platforms this week.

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 26th July)

Helmed by R. Madhavan, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ is a biographical drama which is based on the life of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was falsely accused of selling confidential information to foreign entities and how he eventually fought back. The movie also features Simran (as Meera Narayanan), Rajit Kapur (as Vikram Sarabhai), and Gulshan Grover (as A.P.J. Abdul Kalam) besides special appearances by Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya.

Good Luck Jerry (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 29th July)

The dark comedy crime film’s plot revolves around a simple and innocent woman who gets involved in the world of drug smuggling for want of money for her mother’s treatment for a terminal disease. It’s a Hindi remake of the Tamil movie Kolamaavu Kokila and features Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role alongside Deepak Dobriyal, Sushant Singh, and Mita Vashisht, amongst others.

19(1)(a) (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 29th July)

As the title suggests, the film is ostensibly based on the titular Article of the Indian Constitution pertaining to the freedom of speech and expression. Helmed by Indhu VS, the Malayalam drama features Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen in the lead roles. Menon’s character is that of a photocopy shop owner while Sethupathi seems to be portraying the role of a writer in the film.

777 Charlie (Streaming on Voot from 29th July)

Helmed by Kiranraj. K, the movie features Rakshit Shetty as the protagonist Dharma, who lives a lonely and dull life as a factory worker. His life suddenly takes a positive turn when a naughty and lively stray Labrador dog named Charlie enters his life. How Charlie’ presence changes Dharma’s perspective towards life and bonds with him, forms the film’s underlying premise.

Rangbaaz Season-3 (Streaming on Zee5 from 29th July)

The third instalment of the Rangbaaz franchise features the supremely talented performer Vineet Kumar Singh (Mukkabaaz) as Haroon Shah Ali Baig aka Saheb. The six-episode series showcases his eventful journey from a small town in Bihar to becoming one of the most influential leaders of the State with a Robin Hood kind of image.

Case Toh Banta Hai (Streaming on Amazon miniTV from 29th July)

It’s a light-hearted comedy courtroom drama series where popular film celebrities sportingly defend unusual accusations put up against them by the audience. The celebrity list includes Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anil Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Rohit Shetty, and Badshah. Riteish Deshmukh will essay the role of janta ka lawyer, Varun Sharma as Bollywood’s defence lawyer, and Kusha Kapila as the judge.

Paper Rocket (Streaming on Zee5 from 29th July)

Helmed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, the light-hearted and feel good eight-part comedy drama series revolves around a group of six strangers who undertake an adventurous road trip covering the state of Tamil Nadu. Each one of them wants to overcome his/her own challenges and fulfil their wishes during the eye-opening and meaningful journey.

Masaba Masaba Season-2 (Streaming on Netflix from 29th July)

The biographical drama series is a fictional version of the lives of real-life mother-daughter duo Neena Gupta and Masaba Gupta. They play dramatized versions of their own selves amidst the glamorous backdrop of movies and fashion in Mumbai.

Mi Punha Yein (Streaming on Planet Marathi OTT from 29th July)

Helmed by Arvind Jagtap, the Marathi language political satire web series features an ensemble cast that includes Sayaji Shinde, Upendra Limaye, Siddharth Jadhav, Ruchita Jadhav, and Bharat Ganeshpure, etc. The show ostensibly focuses on the power struggle between two political parties.

Sampurna (Streaming on Hoichoi from 29th July)

The Bengali web series follows the story of the titular protagonist Sampurna (played by Sohini Sarkar) who fights against her own family after learning the shocking fact that her newlywed sister-in-law is a victim of marital rape. The show has been directed by Sayantan Ghosal.

Shikaaru (Streaming on Aha Video from 29th July)

The romantic comedy movie features Sai Dhansika in the role of an unhappy married woman Devika, who invites a bright Bobby (Abhinav Medishetty) to her house However, the goings-on take an amusing turn when Devika’s husband abruptly arrives at the house.
