This Week’s Top Indian OTT Releases: Modern Love: Hyderabad & More

Last week was marked with the arrival of some exciting Indian OTT titles including several films and web series such as ‘Dhaakad’, ‘Dear Vikram’, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, ‘Shut Up Sona’ and ‘Operation Romeo’, to name a few.

Likewise, the current week too has some eagerly anticipated OTT films and web series coming up. For this article, we have compiled a list of the top Indian titles streaming on OTT platforms this week.

Koffee With Karan Season-7 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 7th July)

The entertaining and popular talk show hosted by Indian filmmaker Karan Johar is back with a brand-new season. The new season would feature some well-known names from the film industry like Akshay Kumar with Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Ranveer Singh with Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor with Varun Dhawan, Tiger Shroff with Kriti Sanon, Shahid Kapoor with Kiara Advani, and Janhvi Kapoor with Sara Ali Khan.

The Gone Game Season-2 (Streaming on Voot from 7th July)

The five-part sequel to the 2020 pandemic set series further delves into the mystery behind the supposed death of Sahil Gujral (played by Arjun Mathur). The second season’s plotline revolves around a financial scam and the complex relationships and mind games between the members of the Gujral family. The show also features Sanjay Kapoor, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in pivotal roles.

Paka / River of Blood (Streaming on SonyLIV from 7th July)

Set in North Kerala, ‘River of Blood’ is the story of two star-crossed lovers namely Johnny (Basil Paulose) and Anna (Vinitha Koshy) amidst the bloody backdrop of a long-standing, fierce rivalry between their families. Will the young couple’s love overcome the hateful vengeance between their feuding families? The film’s title comes from the local river shared by the families, and which has witnessed their violent history. The film has been helmed by sound designer turned filmmaker Nithin Lukose in his directorial debut.

Tera Chhalaava (Streaming on MX Player from 7th July)

It’s a crime thriller anthology show which comprises five unusual stories revolving around the themes of love, deceptions, and murders and how the characters go to unimaginable lengths to protect love. The stories showcase different characters like a prostitute who wants a better future, a married couple and their first pregnancy, a popular musician, and a successful writer, etc.

Modern Love: Hyderabad (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 8th July)

Inspired by the popular New York Times column, the Hyderabad chapter of the ‘Modern Love’ series will showcase six heart-warming stories based on different yet universal forms of love and is set amidst the backdrop of the titular City of Pearls – Hyderabad. The series has been directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, Venkatesh Maha, Uday Gurrala and Devika Bahudhanam.

Ranveer Vs Wild With Bear Grylls (Streaming on Netflix from 8th July)

The interactive special features popular Indian actor Ranveer Singh alongside globally acclaimed daredevil adventurer Bear Grylls where viewers will be able to click through it and help the duo who are in the harsh Serbian wilderness with a mission to find a rare flower.

Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd (Streaming on Zee5 from 8th July)

The six-part show features Amruta Subhash as a woman named Suman and her earnest endeavours to start a pickle business in order to get her kids back from her former husband, Dilip (Anup Soni) and to be financially self-reliant. The story follows her arduous and inspiring entrepreneurial journey with support from her mother-in-law (Yamini Das).

Vikram (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 8th July)

Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the star-studded action entertainer ‘Vikram’ features the terrific trio of Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil alongside Suriya in a special cameo. Kamal Haasan has essayed the titular character of a black ops cop named Vikram, who is given the mission to nab a group of masked criminals.

Ante Sundaraniki (Streaming on Netflix from 10th July)

Helmed by Vivek Athreya, the romantic comedy movie revolves around the story of a Hindu boy Sundar (played by Nani) from a conservative Brahmin family and a Christian girl Leela (Nazriya Nazim) who are in love with each other. But they must convince their respective families for their inter-caste marriage but eventually find themselves in an amusing web of lies and the situation grows more complex.

Hurdang (Streaming on Netflix from 10th July)

It’s a romantic drama movie set in 1990s Allahabad which revolves around an IAS aspirant and student leader named Daddu Thakur (Sunny Kaushal) who gets involved in a rebellion related to caste-based reservation. This affects his relationship with his girlfriend Jhullan (Nushratt Bharuccha).
