Episode 5 of X-Men ‘97 was indeed emotional and heartbreaking. No one, and we mean no one saw coming the shocking deaths of Gambit and Magneto (seemingly). The former sacrificed himself to decimate the Wild Sentinel. His death was confirmed during the final moments of the episode. However, we did not see Magneto’s corpse. Is he really dead? Or will he make a surprise return in future episodes? Well, killing off Magneto would certainly leave a substantial void in the ongoing show, a scenario that could adversely affect the upcoming storylines. We will find out more about this in the forthcoming episodes. Meanwhile, a rumour about the show has emerged online that has gained significant attention from fans.
According to the new rumour, Mr. Sinister or Apocalypse could turn out as the mastermind behind the attack on Genosha. This rumour makes sense considering Sinister’s appearance in Episode 3 and Cable’s appearance in the last episode. Apocalypse is Cable’s primary antagonist in the comics. Both Sinister and Apocalypse have appeared in the original animated series and wreaked havoc on the X-Men on several occasions.
We do not know who will turn out to be responsible for destroying Genosha to ashes. Could it be Mr. Sinister, known for his genetic manipulations, or Apocalypse, Cable’s primary adversary in the comics? But we do know that their inclusion in future episodes would take X-Men ‘97 to a whole new level. We witnessed Cable whispering to his mother, Madelyne Pryor, “he’s coming”, possibly referring to the arrival of Apocalypse. However, Pryor was Sinister’s creation. What does it mean?
We cannot ignore the possibility of the ongoing Genosha storyline sharing a connection with both Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister in X-Men ‘97. This scenario could lead us to a potential showdown between these two great villains. Let’s see what unfolds.
