The first reactions to Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming entry, Thor: Love and Thunder, are out now. This Taika Waititi’s directional had its world premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday. And the individuals from the press have shared their thoughts about the film on social media. However, the official reviews will not come out until July 5.
The premiere reactions are more important than official reviews because they play a crucial role in generating the hype for a forthcoming big-budget project before it hits the theatres.
Simon Thompson, a prominent American movie critic, wrote in his tweet: “#ThorLoveAndThunder is a vivid and vibrant blast that delivers. Hemsworth’s Thor remains a jewel in Marvel’s crown. Bale’s Gorr is a killer boogeyman blending the campy and the creepy. Portman’s Foster and Thompson’s Valkyrie are a top-notch pairing. Crowe’s Zeus is *chef’s kiss.*”
Kirsten Acuna from Insider has praised Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor and hailed Thor: Love and Thunder as “the best entry in Phase 4 behind Shang-Chi and [Spider-Man] No Way Home.”
Fandango’s Erik Davis tweeted: “#ThorLoveAndThunder is everything I wanted it to be. Big, colourful, weird Guns N’ Roses-fueled battles to go [with] a hopelessly romantic story about discovering love in unexpected places. Christian Bale & Russell Crowe are especially great. And Korg!”
Bleeding Cool’s Kaitlyn Booth applauded Thor: Love and Thunder for bringing “a breath of fresh air” and being “different from other Thor movies”. Plus, Courtney Howard from Variety declared the film “totally rad”. She also commended the movie’s story, stakes, and character build-up.
Christian Bale’s Gorr has received universal acclaim. Early reviews are hailing the character as one of the best and most terrifying Marvel villains of all time. Although, not all reviews were perfect. Inverse’s deputy editor, Jacob Kleinman felt that the fourth Thor instalment didn’t “quite match the visual or comedy bombast of Ragnarok”. But he did praise Taika Waititi for bestowing an emotionally mature film. Furthermore, Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor avatar is one of the standout features of the film.
Following the events of Endgame, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ focuses on the Asgardian God of Thunder and his quest for peace. He decides to leave his fighting days behind and commences a journey to find inner peace. However, the arrival of the Necrosword holder, Gorr the God Butcher, changes everything. He seeks help from Korg, Valkyrie, and his former girlfriend, Dr Jane Foster who wields Mjolnir now as the Mighty Thor, to stop Gorr from eliminating all the gods in the universe.
