Thor Love and Thunder Witnesses Massive BO Opening in India

Thor: Love and Thunder has received a grand theatrical response globally despite its ‘not-so-good’ critical reaction. The latest Chris Hemsworth starrer has collected $302 million worldwide with $143 million in the US. Also, it has performed exceptionally well at the Indian box office, earning 64.80 crores in its first four days.

The fourth Thor entry was released a day before its worldwide release in India. As a result, it received the fifth-biggest weekend for any Hollywood movie in the country.

Day 1 – 18.20 crores

Day 2 – 11.40 crores

Day 3 – 16.80 crores

Day 4 – 18.40 crores

Total – 64.80 crores (NBOC)

The film got a strong start on Thursday. However, it witnessed a massive drop on Friday. But it regained its steadiness on Saturday and Sunday. Most of the collections came because of the movie’s Hindi version.

Love and Thunder got an extended 4-day weekend for its release in India. Yet, it failed to defeat Benedict Cumberbatch’s Multiverse of Madness, earning 79.75 crores approx in its first three days. Thor 4’s hugely divided critical reception is undoubtedly one of the biggest reasons for this scenario.

Thor: Love and Thunder helmer Taika Waititi recently appeared in an interview for NME where he revealed that he was not a big fan of theatrical cuts. “I watch director’s cuts of a lot of other directors. They suck,” he said. “Director’s cuts are not good. Directors need to be controlled sometimes and if I was to say, ‘Oh you wanna watch my director’s cut? It’s four and a half hours long!’ It’s not good, at four and a half hours. There’s a lot of cup-of-tea breaks in there. You don’t even have to pause it.”

The above statement from Waititi indicates that we should not get our hopes up about getting a director’s cut of Thor 4 in future. “I’d say my cut would probably have a few more jokes in there,” he said. “There might be a couple of deleted scenes. But as I always say, a scene is deleted because it’s not good enough to be in the film. I think the deleted-scenes section on the DVD, not that they use them anymore, should just be a list of the scenes and no links so you can’t click on them,” the director added.

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently running in theatres. Stay tuned for more updates.
