Three Solid Reasons to Watch SonyLIV’s Upcoming Web Series ‘Maharani’

By Binged Bureau - May 27, 2021 @ 02:05 pm

Ever since SonyLIV revealed an intriguing teaser followed by the official trailer of its upcoming politically charged drama ‘Maharani’, the audience is eagerly waiting for the show’s release, which will finally start streaming from tomorrow onwards.

A fictionalized drama set amidst the political backdrop of 1990s Bihar, the ten-episodic web series ‘Maharani’, which is directed by Karan Sharma, revolves around the fictional character of the wife of the Chief Minister of Bihar, whose life transforms overnight when she is suddenly appointed by her husband as the next CM.

Ahead of the Maharani’s release, we give you three solid reasons to watch the show:

The Show’s Creator

The foremost and arguably the most exciting reason to watch the show is because of its creator/writer – Subhash Kapoor. He is the man behind giving us two of the most adeptly made Indian courtroom dramas – ‘Jolly LLB’ starring Arshad Warsi in the titular role and ‘Jolly LLB 2’ starring Akshay Kumar essaying the titular character. For the upcoming web series ‘Maharani’, Subash Kapoor’s political journalism background will hopefully give the show a much-needed realism and distinctive flavor to narrate a compelling story.

Lead Actress

Even a beautifully written and directed show could fail to click with the audience if the lead actor(s) lack what it takes to engage the audience with their honest and gripping performances. And the acting chops of Huma Qureshi are unquestionable. Fresh off the heels of the success of her Hollywood venture ‘Army of the Dead’, Huma Qureshi’s repertoire of work includes films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Ek Thi Daayan’, ‘D Day’ and ‘Badlapur’, etc. From the trailer, it seems that the actress has gotten hold of the nuances of the tricky character of an illiterate homemaker turned politician.

The Terrific Three

‘Maharani’ consists of some immensely capable actors. In particular, the terrific trio of Sohum Shah, Amit Sial and Pramod Pathak.

After making his acting debut in gangster flick ‘Baabarr’, Sohum Shah then essayed the role of a stockbroker in Anand Gandhi’s National Award-winning film ‘Ship of Theseus’. Later, he was appreciated for his cop act in Meghna Gulzar’s critically acclaimed film ‘Talvar’. But his breakthrough project was the visually opulent, period-horror flick ‘Tumbbad’. More than merely a box office success, ‘Tumbbad’ had garnered significant national and international critical acclaim.

While Amit Sial, a trained theatre actor, had initially worked in eminent filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee’s ‘LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha’. Subsequently, he went on to impress the viewers with his earnest performances in the hard-hitting film ‘Titli’ and later in Prime Video’s sports drama ‘Inside Edge’. He was also seen in shows like ‘Rangbaaz’, ‘Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega’ and the immensely acclaimed show ‘Mirzapur’. Besides, he also featured in the recently released SonyLIV original series ‘Kathmandu Connection’.

Furthermore, Pramod Pathak is also an underrated performer, who was part of some eminent projects like ‘Talvar’, ‘Raees’, ‘Raazi’ besides, of course, ‘Mirzapur’.

Maharani’ will start streaming on the SonyLIV platform from May 28, 2021, onwards.
