Another ‘The Bear’ veteran has joined the production of MCU’s Thunderbolts. As per The Hollywood Reporter, writer Joanna Calo will now work on the film’s script. She is best known for her writing duties on the hit FX series, The Bear, which stars Jeremy Allen White (The Iron Claw), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Fantastic Four), Ayo Edebiri (TMNT: Mutant Mayhem), and more. Calo also co-executively produced the series.
Marvel Studios had previously chosen Lee Sung Jin to pen down the screenplay of Thunderbolts. Jin is best known for his work on Netflix’s hit series, Beef, which had the likes of Ali Wong and Steven Yeun.
The plot details for MCU’s Thunderbolts are under wraps. However, it will share connections with many previous projects, mainly with The Falcon and the Winter Solider Disney+ series. The show explored the aftermath of Steve Rogers’ retirement as Captain America. Bucky Barnes (aka Winter Soldier) and John Walker (aka US Agent) will return in the upcoming MCU flick. In addition, we will witness the return of Yelena Belova and Red Guardian. The duo was last seen in Black Widow (2021), starring Scarlett Johansson.
Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts will arrive in theatres worldwide on May 2, 2025. It stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Hannah John-Kamen, Olga Kurylenko, Harrison Ford, and the newly cast Geraldine Viswanathan.
