From Gene Wilder to Johnny Depp to Timothée Chalamet, the mantle of the crazy chocolate factory owner has landed to the ‘Call Me by Your Name’ actor as he joins hand with Warner Bros.for the Willy Wonka‘s origin movie.
The musical film named Wonka will feature Chalamet as the young Willy Wonka, world’s most famous chocolatier. The story will revolve around the formative years of the man who later created the famous house of confectionary treats based on Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. The film will serve as a prequel to the previous films based on Willy Wonka.
The film adaptation of the character Willy Wonka began when Gene Wilder in 1971, famously portrayed the character in the musical ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’. Later, Johnny Depp donned the hat of Wonka in 2005 fantasy ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. In both the movies, the actors portrayed the completely established version of Chocolatier Willy Wonka. So, this would be the first time he will be showcased as a young man before he made it big.
Till now, we do not know much about the casting of the film but the film will be directed by Paul King in association with David Heyman, the lead producer of the Harry Potter franchise who will be producing the film.
Chalamet is currently occupied with production of the upcoming black comedy ‘Don’t Look Up’ and Wes Anderson film ‘The French Dispatch’ and once done with these, he will join the production of Wonka. Wonka is expected to begin its production in September, this year with Warner Bros. aiming to release it theatrically on March 17, 2023. Looks like a wave of chocolate is about to flow towards the evergreen fans of the chocolate factory.
