When the animated superhero sequel ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ released in theatres earlier this year in June, many people thought that this is going to be the best animated superhero movie of 2023 and no other film can even come close. But now, the widely acclaimed Miles Morales movie has got some serious, and rather unexpected, competition.
Yesterday, another superhero animated flick hit the big screens in the US. We are talking about the seventh theatrical release of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ franchise titled ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’, which has received rave reviews from the critics and audiences. But the question is: has the latest TMNT movie outdone its highly rated counterpart ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’? Let’s find out.
Until now, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ has received an impressive critics’ score of 94% and is ‘Certified Fresh’ on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes based on 123 reviews so far.
On the other hand, its competitor ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ has received just a slightly higher critics’ score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ is the better reviewed movie out of the two for the year 2023 as of now. But the scores might change in the near future.
Having said that, interestingly, both these movies ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ have got the exact same audience score of 94% on the same website Rotten Tomatoes. So, as per the audience, both these animated superhero movies are at par with each other.
‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ movie revolves around how the Turtle brothers make it their mission to take on a mysterious crime organization. But the problem arises when they must fight a gang of mutants headed by a dangerous criminal called Superfly. In India, ‘TMNT: Mutant Mayhem’ is scheduled to be released in theatres on 25th August.
