Netflix upped their game when it released two young adult rom com movies. Both “To All The Boys” and “Kissing Booth”, released in 2018 turned out to be great franchises for the streaming site. With these two movies Netflix was back in the game with trendsetting rom com movies once again.
To All The Boys released its last movie in the trilogy this year and again it ended up being a hit amongst the audience. With the success that this movie got, Netflix has teamed up once again with one woman behind the camera, who is responsible for making these movies a hit. Sofia Alvarez, the screenwriter behind “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You” is coming back to Netflix for another young adult movie.
Sofia Alvarez will be directing and writing the film adaptation of young adult novel “Along for the Ride”, written by the New York Times Bestselling author Sarah Dessen. The movie follows a teenage girl named Auden, who meets this mysterious guy named Eli during the summer before her college. Both of them share a striking similarity as both are insomniacs. As their beautiful seaside town falls asleep, these two go on nightly adventures and Auden finally has fun that she could never have in those earlier teenage years. She experiences everything that she desired for, all thanks to Eli.
The cast for the movie is already finalized and it will star Emma Casarow and Belmont Cameli in the lead roles. Kate Bosworth, Laura Kariuki, Andie MacDowell and Dermot Mulroney are the others that are joining the cast. The book from which the movie will be adapted has received various accolades including winning the award for Goodreads Choice Award for Best YA.
The movie will be Sofia Alvarez’s directorial debut. It is being produced by Brian Unkelss and Eric Newman. The movie will start its shoot in North Carolina. Besides “Along for the Ride”, Netflix has also been looking into many other YA books from Sarah Dessen, but hasn’t confirmed any other adaptations.
