The filming for Todd Haynes’ upcoming untitled gay romance film, starring Joaquin Phoenix, is set to commence soon. Popular cinema firm, MK2 Films, has also boarded the project. MK2, along with John Sloss’ Cinetic, will discuss the film with selected buyers in the forthcoming weeks. Deadline first broke the news.
The upcoming Joaquin Phoenix starrer will be a secretive detective story. Its filming will start this summer. Plot details about the project are being kept under wraps. However, several reports have revealed that the film will have two central male figures. Both characters will be gay, and one of them will be Joaquin Phoenix. Both male characters are intense lovers and together, they decide to leave California to settle in Mexico. More performers will join this project’s cast soon.
Todd Haynes is co-producing the project with Christine Vachon, nominated for this year’s Academy Awards for Past Lives. He discussed the project with Deadline some time ago, revealing that one of the two male protagonists would be a Native American, while the other would be an LA-based corrupt cop. Based on Joaquin Phoenix’s appearance, we believe it is safe to assume that the on-screen Joker may portray the cop’s character in the film.
“We basically wrote with him as a story writer,” Haynes said about Phoenix. “Me and Jon Raymond and Joaquin share the story credit.”
Joaquin Phoenix’s next project, Joker: Folie à Deux, will arrive in theatres globally on October 1, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
