Tom Hanks’ Geppetto Is All Hearts in Disney’s ‘Pinocchio’ First Look!

During Disney’s Investor Day 2022, Robert Zemeckis‘ Upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1940 animated classic Pinocchio’s first official look was shared. Intending as a small sneak-peak at the puppet as well as Tom Hanks’ Geppetto, the live-action adaptation is said to exclusively stream on Disney+ some time in September 2022.

As one could see, Tom Hanks‘ Geppetto is all hearts and Pinocchio looks very much like a replica of its animated version. Now this is nothing less than phenomenal because Disney has a reputation of creating live-action characters visibly dissimilar to it’s animated counterparts.

Pinocchio is the story of a wooden puppet who embarks on an adventurous journey to become a real boy. Tom Hanks plays Geppetto, the wood-carver who creates Pinocchio and treats him as his own child. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth voices Pinocchio, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt voices Pinocchio’s guide Jiminy Cricket. Cynthia Erivo voices the Blue Fairy, with Keegan-Michael Key as “Honest John”, Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull and Luke Evans as The Coachman.

Zemeckis’ known for the most iconic Back to The Future trilogy and Forrest Gump has also penned the script of this adaptation alongside Chris Weitz. The duo also co-produces the film with Derek Hogue, Andrew Miano and Paul Weitz. Jackie Levine, Jack Rapke, Alexandra Derbyshire and Jeremy Johns act as Executive Producers.

However, The Disney+ adaptation of Pinocchio is not the only adaptation of The iconic character in the pipeline. There’s also a stop-motion animated take on Pinocchio from Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, due for a December Netflix release. Although Both adaptations stem from the classic children’s novel The Adventures of Pinocchio penned by Italian author Carlo Collodi, Disney+ live action adaptation is a re-telling of Disney’s 1940 animated classic, Pinocchio.
