Netflix has an interesting new crime thriller in the works. Titled ‘Havoc’, it has the fresh new pairing of acclaimed actor Tom Hardy with Oscar winning actor Forest Whitaker. The film will be helmed by Gareth Evans, director of The Raid: Redemption. ‘Havoc’ is the first film that Gareth Evans is writing, directing and producing for Netflix, as part of the exclusive, multi-year deal he signed recently with the streamer.
The news was first broken by online media publication, Deadline. Havoc is an action thriller set in the backdrop of the world of drugs and drug-lords. It centres on a detective who must rescue a politician’s son from the clutches of criminals after a drug deal goes wrong, at the same time fighting through a web of crime, conspiracies and corruption.
Crime thrillers are the forte of Gareth Evans. He is also the creator of the acclaimed Sky series, ‘Gangs Of London’. Tom Hardy has been nominated for multiple awards in the last few years, most notably, an Academy Awards nomination for ‘The Revenant’. Forest Whitaker won the Academy Award for best actor for his portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in ‘The Last King of Scotland’, along with a clutch of other awards for the role.
