Tom Hiddleston’s “The Essex Serpent” Arrives Early on AppleTV+

Since the day location snaps of Tom Hiddleston from the sets of “The Essex Serpent” were released, the anticipation around the show went notches and notches high. This probably has more to do with Hiddleston’s insanely big fan-following especially post the success of Disney+ Marvel show “Loki” and also the fact that he’s doing a Gothic periodical after Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak in 2015.

AppleTV+ has also released a first-look image of “The Essex Serpent” featuring Claire Danes and Tom Hiddleston with a release date set on May 13, 2022. The limited series will drop it’s first two episodes on May 13th followed by one episode per week.

An adaptation of the best-selling novel from Sarah Perry, this biggie is centred around a London Widow Cora Seaborne played by Danes who moves to Essex to investigate about a mythical serpent. She then bonds with a village clergy played by Tom Hiddleston. Soon enough an unbelievable tragedy strikes, leading to the locals accusing her of awakening and attracting the serpent. What follows then forms the crux of the show.

BAFTA nominee Anna Symon penned the script and Clio Barnard directed this six episode series for the streamer. Touted as one the biggest gambles for AppleTV+ besides Gary Oldman’s “Slow Horses” , the show also stars Frank Dillane, Hayley Squires and Clémence Poésy. Both ” The Essex Serpent” and “Slow Horses” come from “The Power of the Dog” producer See-Saw Films. Stay tuned for more updates.
