Amazon MGM Studios has taken over American Speed, a film starring Tom Holland and Austin Butler. RD Whittington and Douglas Banker will star in the movie, which is being produced by Oscar-winning producer Charles Roven. The IMSA controversy of the 1980s, in which racers used money laundering, tax evasion, or drug smuggling to finance racing operations, is the basis for the script. This story is based on the real story of the Whittington brothers.
With Butler co-starring in Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming film and Holland appointing Destin Daniel Cretton as director for his upcoming Spider-Man movie, both actors have been very busy in 2024. In addition, Holland starred in Masters of the Air on Apple TV, Bike Riders, and Dune: Part Two. He is now filming Caught Stealing, a thriller directed by Darren Aronofsky.
Roven is a producer of the sci-fi thriller Mercury, starring Chris Pratt, which is scheduled for release by Amazon MGM Studios on August 15, 2025, while Wiedenhaupt just penned the action movie Alpha. WME and Sloane Offer represent both Holland and Butler.
