Documentaries are something that gives us an insight into something that rattled the world or something that is necessary for the world to know. The OTT World has given us a huge number of documentaries over the past few years and this year too wasn’t any different.

A documentary released on the 11th November, 2020, Trial 4 shows the story of Sean K. Ellis who was unjustly and wrongly convicted for the killing of a Boston Police Officer. This documentary released on April 29, 2020 on Netflix and shows the journey of Cyntoia Brown who was arrested when she was 16 because she shot the person that abducted her, raped her and pushed her into sexual slavery. It was a nationwide talk as most people believed she was arrested as she was a woman of color and the man she shot, though a criminal happened to be a white man. The documentary takes a look into the case and judiciary as it clearly showed discrimination on the basis of color.

The year, that changed all of a sudden to the outbreak of disease that soon transformed into a pandemic. Coronavirus, Explained is a 3 episode docuseries that explains how it all started, what has been going on and what the future plan to tackle such pandemic is. This is a pretty knowledgeable show if one wants to learn about Coronavirus. It released in April, 2020 and is available to stream online on Netflix.

7. Hope Frozen: A Quest to Live Twice

This is a documentary that follows the lives of a couple who decided to cryogenically preserve the remains of their 2 year old daughter. Their daughter named Einz, suffered from a lethal form of brain cancer which resulted in her death, later her parents decided that her remains be preserved with an American company with a hope that in future if it is possible to bring her back. The couple received a lot of criticism for going against their culture in the Buddhist majority country of Thailand. They have been a topic of discussion for a lot of people with time. The documentary premiered in the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and later, Netflix picked it up to be released worldwide.

A documentary that is based on one of the most important parts of human history that is the Disability Rights Movement and what led to this movement is answered through this documentary. Starting in the year 1971 at Camp Jened, it follows the journey of campers who are specially abled and how later they brought about changes and turned themselves into activists to help those who they feel are similar to them. A documentary of the worldwide music sensation Taylor Swift that shows years of footage, flashbacks, interviews that gives the audience an insight into the life of Taylor Swift and her change over the years and what led to those changes. Her acceptance and everything that can inspire her fans has been very well put together in this film to show the world, who this fierce woman is. A true crime docuseries that follows the life of Joe Exotic and his nemesis Carole Baskin released in the earlier part of the year, on March 20, 2020. This suddenly became a worldwide phenomenon. People started reviving Joe’s mullet hair cut, the tiger print clothes, memes and everything that raised the curiosity of the people as to what the story is behind all these. This documentary gave people an insight into the breeding of exotic cats and how it was used to show power. The show received a lot of mixed reviews as it exposed a lot of truth that was being hidden from the people in plain sight.

The docudrama series follows and brings forward the truth of the fast moving world that is consumed by social media. It talks about

This is a British documentary narrated by the famous David Attenborough. The movie works as a witness as to what has changed in this
planet, what is going on and in future what can happen to this planet, we call home. The movie touches various topics such as nuclear power, renewable energy, healthcare, deforestation and everything that is changing earth as to what it was and what it will be. Released in October, 2020 this is available on Netflix.

The docuseries is one of the highest rated documentaries of 2020. It revolves around the life of the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan, especially his career and his final season at Chicago Bulls. For many, Michael Jordan is religion himself, his journey most definitely is inspiring to the lot. A total of 90 persons were interviewed for this docuseries and also some of the never before aired footage from his final season were finally made public through this documentary.
