Kay Kay Menon’s performance as Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh is amongst the best performances witnessed in Indian cinema. The film was loosely based on the Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise starrer film ‘A Few Good Men’.
In the Valley of Elah, 2007 (Streaming on Lionsgate Play)
Based on a real-life incident, the criminally underrated film features veteran actor Tommy Lee Jones as a former military investigator Hank Deerfield. After he learns about the disappearance of his soldier son following his Iraq tour, Hank takes the help of a police detective (Charlize Theron) and investigates the case himself.
Rustom, 2016 (Streaming on Zee5)
The film is loosely based on the court case of a Naval Commander (played by Akshay Kumar), who was accused of murdering his wife’s lover. How the protagonist defends himself and fights the nail-biting legal battle forms the rest of the movie’s story. Akshay Kumar had won the National Film Award for his performance in the film.
Reacher, 2022 (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The eight-part opening season of the show is based on Lee Child’s debut book on Jack Reacher – Killing Floor. It features Alan Ritchson as a former military police officer Jack Reacher who is convicted for a crime he did not commit. With assistance from local cops, he must uncover the dangerous conspiracy involving some powerful people in Margrave, Georgia.
The Test Case, 2017 (Streaming on Alt Balaji, Jio Cinema)
Somewhat based on Ridley Scott’s 1997 film ‘G.I. Jane’, the series features Nimrat Kaur in the role of Captain Shikha Sharma as the only female Indian Army officer training to be inducted into the Special Forces. The test case must overcome several mental and physical challenges along with gender bias and politics to become the first ever female combatant in the Indian Army.
